Mental Health Counselor
Duties and Responsibilities:
The
duties of a mental health counselor include helping people come with difficult
life events, managing a person’s serious mental illness, and referring to other
resources when working with particular clients. Counselor’s may be subjected to
only one type of population, they may work in teams, and may work in a variety
of agencies.
Salary:$43,190
Education:
To
prepare for this career you at least need a master’s degree in a related field
of study. Certification may not be required because it depends on state guidelines.
Demand or Need for this Profession:
For
this profession you must have communication skills, acceptance, empathy,
problem solving skills, flexibility, self-awareness, and a multicultural competency.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the job of mental health
counselors will grow 36% through 2020.

I think
I would like to be one because I would love to work with patients of different
backgrounds that have had their own histories. I would as well enjoy learning
more about a person’s feelings and how their brain works.
