Presidents Day

  1. Presidents Day was originally created to recognize President George Washington, it is actually officially called "Washington's Birthday" by the federal government. As there are other holidays that celebrate presedential figures as individuals, Presidents Day has become famously known to celebrate all presidents both past and present.
  2. Presidents Day was originally celebrated on February 22nd which is President George Washington's actual date of birth; However it was not until the day was moved as a part in the 1971's Uniform Monday Holiday Act in an attempt to create more three-day weekends for the nation's workers that it became popularly known. This year this famous holiday is celebrated on Monday the 19th of february.
  3. The holiday itself is showing honor to all of the presidents that have ever led this country. Other traditions people today do on presidents day include: Districts having a no school day, stores starting their sale season, most delivering services not being in perfect operstion, and/or not all public transit systems operating on their redular/daily schedules. You can show honor by watching the news and their take on the holiday, going to a reanactment of a U.S event, going to a parade, or saying the Pledge of Allegiance.
  4. I can show honor and respect on President's day by watching the live coverage of many President's Day marches and parades, or I can actually go to a parade that is occuring near me. I can also buy the American Flag and put it outside my home or somewhere around that and say the Pledge Of Allegiance. Finally, I can be proud of my country and all of it's accomplishments.
