Optometry Technician

Duties and Responsibilities:

Optometry technicians work with optometrists to carry out eye examinations and treatments. They must test a patients' visual acuity, depth perception, pressure inside of eye, color vision and pupil reflexes. They also ready exam rooms, prepare exam schedules, clean equipment, and and assist/prepare eyeglasses.

Salary: $30, 590

Education: 

You should at least have a high school diploma. A two-year training program and an associative degree would make you more competitive.

Demand for this Career: 

This career is thought to grow 23% from the year 2014 to 2024. To be successful in this career you must have good rapport with patients, communicate effectively with superiors, and must have basic math and physics skills.

Reflection: Do you think you would like to be one? Why? Why not?

I do not think I would like to be one because the career itself does not interest me as much as all of the other careers we have explored this entire school year. I would much rather be working with technology or doing surgery than examining eyes.
